The Henschke family has been making wine in the Barossa Valley for generations. It is a mix of Shiraz, Grenache, Mourvèdre and Viognier. In 1853, Henry Evans planted the first vineyard of seven acres at Keyneton and rapidly known for producing the best wines in the colony. A blend of shiraz and viognier is made from Viognier, while the grapes grenache and mourvèdre are vinified separately. Prior to blending and bottling, the wine is aged in older French hogsheads for 15 months.
